Elliot grew up in a musical family in Webster Groves, Missouri. He began his musical life playing the five string banjo, followed by the guitar, lute, and ultimately, the arch guitar. His formal education includes a masters degree in music from Webster University, but the skill and artistry heard on these recordings come from years he spent supporting his family by playing as a street musician.
